Biblical perspectives to important happenings in the news of the day...
Out well refined and hardworking Prime Minister has often been called Mr. Clean. In spite of all the almost myriads of scams and corruption scearios our PM has always been declared as not being personally involved. Like manya good man before him, who held high office in our government, our PM finds himself surrounded by colleagues who have been proved as being dishonest and corrupt and deceitful and devious and greedy within the confines of their public service. As a result the office of the PM is beset with problems and he himself gets accused of being a participant in the crimes committed. But no matter what the accusation are or how severe the attacks on his character, the PM remains as calm as ever and his title of 'Mr. Clean' remains intact.
But is there the possibility of another kind of charge directed towards the PM sticking to him as being a valid allegation? Can his unswerving calm demeanor be his only defense against the latter complaint? Could the PM say that he is not involved at all, even morally, when it has been proven that there are those in his own office, under his care, who have actively consorted with the guilty?
The cabinet is made up of men and women chosen by the party in power who of course chooses the PM himself. Thus the PM is intimately involved in the choice of his cabinet colleagues. Is it ot logical to expect him and the party to investigate and scrutinize the background and credentials of those who are to work closely with him and who would hold the various reins of governmet? Of course there is the possibility, which at times seems absurd, that the extreme greed which dictates the various scams and schemes of corruption (schemes which deprive the government of hundreds of crores of rupees, which in turn of course should be correctly viewed as depriveing the people of money which is rightfully theirs as tax payers), developed after these people came into office. Often we say they were good men but they became evil after assuming the positions of power. This seems absurd I said for then we would have to say that most of the ministries and officials and others became crooks only after taking charge of their assignments. Such a conclusion would question the office itself but regardless of the conclusion these men and women found guilty of mass corruption have served with the PM and were originally approved by him.So is he guilty by association?
This blog is not intended to indict the PM or anybody but the number of gates that take place are alarming- Railgate, Coalgate, 2G gate etc. and the Word of the Lord says something about a truly righteous man. James- 4: 17 says, Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.(NIV) And the blessed man of Psalm 1, is one who not only delights in the law of the Lord but also does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers(NIV). That kind of man displays true wisdom, the kind of wisdom needed to lead our great nation.
I am proud of our PM - his intellect and his astuteness in international affairs. I am sure that indeed he is Mr. Clean. That does bring prestige to his high office. But to maintain his clean image and to bring back decency to the governance of our land his personal conviction against those in corruption had to be declared. Mr. PM, more power to you as you battle the corruption in your highly esteemed office.
